On Monday, an armed group robbed a car belonging to the Worldwide Church of the Kingdom of God (WCKG) in Maputo, confiscating six million meticais (86 thousand euros), the Mozambican police told Lusa.
The robbery took place at around 8:00 a.m. (7:00 a.m. in Lisbon) on Avenida Mohamed Siad Barre in the Mozambique capital, Leonel Mucina, a spokesman for the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) in Maputo, said Lusa.
“They arrived and threatened the driver of the car. [Mahindra] who was accompanied by another passenger. They broke his right side window to force him to open the doors and pulled out a suitcase from the car containing six million tags,” Leonel Muchina said.
An amateur video circulating on social media shows the moment of the robbery, with a Toyota Fortuner blocking another Mahindra vehicle right outside the Francisco Mañanga Secondary School.
Leonel Mucina reported that the robbed car was leaving the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God and was heading to the bank to deposit money.
A spokesman said the victims of the attack had filed a report with police and that “steps were being taken to clarify the circumstances.”
