A couple from God Coast, Australia, were thrilled to discover they had won $1,000 (€919) in the lottery. But everything changed when they realised moments later that they had entered the wrong ticket and had actually won $1,008,162.52 (around €924,122.09).
In accordance with Daily mailThe couple were one of five contestants who had a winning ticket, and it was only when a lottery official called that they realised they had made a mistake.
“At first I only saw the first four numbers and I said to my partner, ‘We’ve won $1,008,'” the winner said.
To which the husband replied that it was not “1008 dollars,” but “1 million dollars.”
The couple say they are both retired and that the money will go toward repairs to their home, which was damaged in recent hurricanes.
“I still can’t believe it. It came at a very opportune time, we feel very lucky,” the woman said, adding that they usually win only $15 per draw (about 14 euros).
The ticket was purchased in Extra Kumera Newswhose manager Ching Li said she couldn’t believe what had happened. “When I first saw him in the terminal, I couldn’t believe it,” he said.
