Alexa Steakley, a 29-year-old mother, died after she was hit by her own car while trying to save her six-year-old son in Ohio, US. The car had already been stolen with Alexa’s son inside, according to ABCNews.
According to the same source, it all happened around 1:30 a.m. Thursday when Alexa, after finishing her waitressing shift, went to pick up her son from the nanny. The woman put the boy in the car and started the car. However, he later realized that he needed something that he had left at the nanny’s house, and when he returned, he saw his car being pulled out onto the road.
“She realized she needed something from the nanny. When she returned to the car, she began to back out onto the road. Steakley was seen running toward the car when she was struck and thrown onto the sidewalk,” police said.
Authorities also say the woman died hours later from her injuries and that Alexa’s car was “abandoned nearby.” The child was later found safe and sound in the car.
In accordance with ABCNewsAuthorities say two men were seen walking past Alexa after she was hit. Police say the two men match the descriptions of two suspects who were among a group of people wandering around the apartments early in the evening.
“Alexa was passionate about children. She was smart and compassionate, and she cared deeply about helping children,” Ohioans say.
“He died heroically trying to save his six-year-old son,” they add.
