The Cuban energy system has temporarily stopped the electricity supply to the center-east of the island, the press service of the Cuban Energy Union (UNE) reported on February 13.
The information disseminated by the organization explains that the failure occurred in the network between the settlements in the central provinces of the island, which caused a power outage.
The message did not specify the cause of the failure or the duration of the work to eliminate it.
Let us remember that in Cuba there are problems to maintain the required capacity in the national electrical network, which often leads to power outages. The lack of fuel and the difficulty in depreciating the equipment of the thermal power plants are due to the extraterritorial and unilateral sanctions imposed on Cuba by the United States. After the world tour of Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel in November, in which he was able to agree on cooperation in the energy field, the shortage of electricity generated on the Island has been significantly reduced.
This month, the management of the UNE and the Ministry of Energy and Mines of Cuba developed maintenance measures in the generating plants to increase the capacity figures for the summer phase.
