The United Nations Development Programme estimates that rebuilding cities in the Palestinian territory now costs twice as much as it did in January, and the cost is rising every day.
The UN also predicts that cleanup operations will cost between $500,000 and $600,000 (about €450,000 and €550,000).
A UN official told the Guardian that the landscape of Gaza had been completely changed by explosions from the war and that there was not a single building left standing in the area between the Mediterranean Sea, Egypt and Israel.
Gaza Civil Defense, for its part, warns of the danger still present in the rubble, which could contain live explosives. According to the Palestinian Authority, in addition to all the material destruction, more than 38,000 people have died in the Gaza Strip alone.
The ongoing war between Israel and the Palestinian organization Hamas, which has lasted for nearly nine months, has resulted in the deaths of thousands of people between the two warring parties and the almost complete destruction of civilian infrastructure in the Gaza Strip.
