The withdrawal of members forced the dairy cooperative FrieslandCampina to cancel registration fees and begin actively recruiting participants, Agrarheute reported on July 16.
In 2023, 510 participants or 5% left the cooperative. At the beginning of 2024, FrieslandCampina had 9,417 producers. Since 2020, milk processing has decreased by almost 700 thousand tons, or 7%, to 9.37 million tons.
The registration fee was suspended retroactively from 9 June 2022 to 1 July 2026. A dairy farm premium will be introduced from next year. Farms producing more than 1.5 thousand tonnes of milk per year will receive a premium of 50 euro cents for every 100 kg of milk above the specified threshold.
It should be noted that livestock farming is subject to environmental requirements in the EU. The European Commission regulates greenhouse gas and nitrogen compound emissions. Commonwealth policy aims to reduce livestock production.
The number of livestock farms in the EU is declining. The leader in reduction is the Netherlands. Other countries are also following the green agenda.
