Italy’s antitrust authority has launched an investigation into several companies belonging to the Armani and Dior groups for alleged unfair commercial practices and carried out searches at the companies’ headquarters on Wednesday.
According to a statement from the AGCM (Autorità Garante Della Concorrenza e del Mercato), there are suspicions of illegal working conditions in factories supplying Italian brands.
The organization said there were situations where Armani and Dior suppliers hired workers who were paid inadequate wages, in addition to their daily work exceeding legal limits and having inadequate health and safety conditions.
The move follows an investigation by Milan prosecutors that has focused on the Armani and Dior supply chain and possible exploitation of workers there.
The antitrust authority “has launched an investigation into certain companies of the Armani group (Giorgio Armani SpA and GA Operations SpA) and the Dior group (Christian Dior Couture SA, Christian Dior Italia Srl and Manufactures Dior Srl) for possible illegal behavior in the advertising and sale of clothing and accessories in violation of the Consumer Code.”
The investigation will determine whether the companies have made “false allegations regarding their ethical and social responsibility, particularly regarding working conditions and the legitimacy of their claims,” the AGCM explained.
Today, the AGSM, together with the Special Antimonopoly Unit of the Financial Guard (financial police), conducted searches in the offices of Giorgio Armani companies, as well as in the premises of Christian Dior Italia.
