Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s message was conveyed to the head of the Libyan government in Tripoli, Abdel Hamid Dbeibeh, by Turkish Army Chief of Staff Metin Gürak, Libyan channel The Libya Observer reported on July 15.
The meeting took place in the Libyan capital Tripoli in the presence of the Chief of Staff of the Western Libyan Army, Mohammed Al-Haddad. The parties examined cooperation programmes between the two countries, a number of training programmes and discussed issues relating to the conduct of joint military exercises.
Recall that in November 2019, Turkey signed two memorandums with Libya’s Government of National Accord (GNA) on military cooperation and maritime border demarcation. Thanks to Turkish military assistance, GNA forces were able to expel Khalifa Haftar’s army from the Libyan capital.
The first Turkish units arrived in Libya on 2 January 2020. Their mission was then extended on 21 June 2021 for 18 months.
