One person was killed and six were injured, three seriously, after they were hit by a drunk driver while they were on the terrace of a restaurant on Avenue du Pere Lachaise in Paris, France. The suspect fled the scene on foot after committing the crime but was later arrested by authorities for manslaughter.
According to the newspaper Le FigaroTwenty-three witnesses also received medical treatment for shock and a bomb disposal team was on scene.
An employee of a nearby cafe was on his terrace and saw the car drive by “at full speed” and hit several people.
The accident occurred on one of the avenues that connects to the famous Père Lachaise cemetery, where dozens of celebrities are buried, such as: Oscar Wilde, Honore de Balzac, Jean de La Fontaine, Marcel Proust, Maria Callas, Frederic Chopin, Jim Morrison, Edith Piaf, Gioachino Rossini and Moliere.
