The mass death of bees in the Rostov region is not associated with the use of pesticides to treat agricultural land, the Donnews news portal reported on July 18.
According to the portal, Lyudmila Rebrova, a beekeeper at the Krasny Kut farm in the Oktyabrsky district of the Rostov region, received the results of an examination of dead bees. The document issued by the Rostov Regional Veterinary Laboratory states that no chemical substances capable of killing insects (pyrethroids, catenoids, phytopronil, phosphorus-containing substances) were found in the sample.
The results of the investigation shocked beekeepers: it turned out that the bees themselves had died. “It turns out to be such black humor: the bees committed suicide!” – Rebrova is outraged.
Earlier, in early July, beekeepers in the Oktyabrsky and Shakhty rural districts reported a mass death of bees. According to Rebrova, 78 bee colonies died in her apiary alone. Mass deaths of bees were also recorded in four more settlements in the Oktyabrsky district and in the village of Maisky in Shakhty. The losses are estimated to be 90%.
The district administration reported that on June 30, at the Maryevka farm, sunflower fields were treated with a new drug, due to which the bee dies within three days. However, beekeepers were not informed about the work being carried out.
To find out the cause of the mass death of bee colonies, beekeepers from the Rostov region have turned to the Investigative Committee and the regional prosecutor’s office. They also want to have the study repeated. To do this, the beekeepers plan to contact an independent laboratory, but, according to them, time has been lost and the pesticides may have already evaporated.
