The fire in Koktebel, Crimea, has spread beyond the boundaries of the Karadag Nature Reserve, the press service of the main department of the Crimean Ministry of Emergency Situations reported on July 18.
“Of the 44 hectares burned in Koktebel, four are areas that do not belong to the reserve”the message says.
The director of the Karadag Nature Reserve, Vyacheslav Litvin, said that the area of the fire in the reserve itself had not increased.
“The area is about 40 hectares, we took satellite images, we calculated everything, the area has not increased. Now there is smoke only in some places, everything is being cleared.”“, Litvin clarified.
For the time being, employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations continue to irrigate dangerous areas. The army, the National Guard and state reserve firefighters are also working there.
No animal carcasses were found. The fire did not turn into a ring, so they managed to escape from the scene of the fire.
Recall that the fire near Koktebel started on July 15 and continues to this day. The fire has been extinguished in many places, but heat and wind are causing the forest floor to ignite again. Due to the difficult mountainous terrain, rescuers have to resort to aviation.
It was reported earlier that the alleged culprit of the fire was a builder. The forest waste fire that covered an area of 30 hectares in the Karadag Nature Reserve was started by a 50-year-old man who worked as a shredder on the territory of a house in the village of Koktebel.
While cutting metal, sparks ignited dry grass. The man tried to put out the fire himself, but was unable to control the flames, which began to spread throughout the reserve.
Based on the incident, the investigative bodies of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for the Republic of Crimea have opened a criminal case.
