Spanish authorities have dismantled the world’s largest organisation of sailing ships used to transport drugs in an international operation that also involved Portugal.
A total of 50 people were arrested in the operation carried out by the Spanish National Police in coordination with authorities in Norway, the United States and the United Kingdom, according to the Spanish news agency EFE.
According to information cited by EFE, investigations and searches were carried out in Spain and Portugal, as well as in Bulgaria, Great Britain, Panama, Trinidad and Tobago and Colombia.
In Spain, 13 search operations were carried out in Malaga, six in Valencia, five in Almeria, two in Alicante, one in Girona and one in Murcia.
No details have been released yet about the progress of the operation in Portugal.
The international operation, coordinated by Spain, seized 1,500 kilograms of cocaine, eight vessels, 36 vehicles and 85 telephones used for drug trafficking communications.
