Coach Roberto Martinez will release Portugal’s squad for the first two games in Group A1 of the Nations League on August 30, the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) said on Friday.
The fourth edition of the Nations League will begin with the Portuguese side welcoming Croatia to the Estádio da Luz in Lisbon on 5 September, before they play Scotland at the same stadium three days later, with both games kicking off at 19:45.
The announcement of those selected for the double trip in Group A1, which also includes Poland, will take place on August 30 at the Cidade do Futebol in Oeiras at 10:30, according to a statement from FPF.
This will be Roberto Martinez’s first call-up since Euro 2024, where the Kinas side were eliminated in the quarter-finals by France on penalties after beating the Czech Republic and Turkey in the group stage and losing to Georgia before knocking out Slovenia in the last 16 on penalties.
Portugal won the inaugural Nations League in 2019 but then failed to reach the Final Four in 2020/21 and 2022/23.
Following Martinez’s press conference, Under-21 coach Rui Jorge will also announce the squad for the Group G clash with Croatia, who will qualify for next year’s European Championship.
