President of the 78th UN General Assembly Dennis Francis has paid an official visit to Vietnam, Vietnamese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said at a press conference on July 18.
Dennis Francis came for three days at the invitation of Vietnamese Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son.
“This is the first time that the President of the United Nations General Assembly has visited Vietnam”added Pham Thu Hang.
Last year, Prime Minister Pham Minh Trinh and UN General Assembly President Dennis Francis met during a business trip to the United States in September.
Francis said he was very impressed by Vietnam’s achievements in the field of socio-economic development.
He also highly appreciated Vietnam’s active role, including its participation in UN peacekeeping activities.
Francis noted that Vietnam has many achievements in eliminating people’s poverty and in developing the country, which can be shared with the world. He also highlighted the development of cooperation in implementing the SDGs, responding to climate change and food security.
According to Hang, this visit will help develop cooperation between the two sides so that it remains effective.
During his visit to Vietnam, the President of the UN General Assembly will meet with Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son and meet with the country’s top leaders.
