The fire broke out at 12:19 in the Barros area of Janes, in the parish of Alcabideche, municipality of Cascais. There are currently at least five injured firefighters and one man, considered seriously injured, who had to be taken to the emergency room of the Cascais hospital. The flames have already engulfed a fire truck and the nursing home on Rua Fernando Pessoa in Janes has had to be evacuated.
Of the five injured firefighters, all minors, three were from the Agualva-Cacém corporation (caught in the fire of a burnt-out fire engine), one from the Algueirão-Mem Martins fire department and one from the Cascais fire department.
According to the commander of the 2nd Civil Protection Region, Joaquim Santos, no house is under threat. Wind is the main difficulty in fighting the flames.
This is a forested area, residential buildings are located approximately two to three kilometers from here.
There are 357 emergency personnel on site, supported by 106 ground and 14 air assets. Strong winds are blowing.
Roads in Murcha are closed.
