This Sunday, Benfica beat Almeria 3-1 after losing to the Spanish second division team in a warm-up match held in Thonon-les-Bains, France.
Niko Melamed put the Andalusian side, who were relegated from the Spanish league last season, ahead in the 23rd minute, but Greek Pavlidis in the 36th minute and Brazilian Artur Cabral in the 53rd minute managed to turn the tide, before Joao Mario scored the result in the 72nd minute.
It was the Reds’ third preparatory match of the 2024/25 season after a 5-0 win over Farense and a 2-2 draw with Celta Vigo, both played in Agueda.
Roger Schmidt’s side have three more friendlies scheduled, the first of which will be on Thursday against English side Brentford (20:00) at the Estadio da Luz. They will be followed by meetings with Dutch side Feyenoord (19:30), on the 28th, also at the Benfica stadium, for the Eusébio Cup, and with English side Fulham (20:00), on August 2, at the Estadio Algarve.
