Prominent Kemerovo chemist and long-time rector of Kemerovo State University (KemSU), corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Yuri Zakharov has passed away, the press service of the Federal Research Center for Coal and Coal Chemistry (FRC UUKh SB RAS) reported on July 23.
The researcher passed away at the age of 86. Until today, he was the chief researcher of the Federal Research Center of the SB RAS and headed the work of the laboratory of inorganic nanomaterials.
For many years, from 1978 to 2005, Yuri Zakharov was the rector of KemSU. During this time, the university achieved the status of the central classical university of Kuzbass.
The scientist’s scientific interests since Soviet times have been in nanochemistry; he participated in the work of the Soviet Union’s space program. He has published hundreds of highly valued scientific articles that have been cited tens of thousands of times.
The staff of the Federal Research Centre of UUH SB RAS regrets the passing away of the great scientist and expresses its deepest condolences to his family and friends.
