Construction of the FPDG3 project dredger has begun in Astrakhan, ABN24 reported on July 22.
The FPDG3 dredger is the most powerful of its kind and will be the third in a series ordered by FSUE Rosmorport to maintain the specified depths of the Volga-Caspian Sea Shipping Canal (VKMSK).
The FPDG3 project is a non-self-propelled papillon milling dredger with a ground pump. That is, the vessel moves during dredging operations by using winches and anchors. Its autonomy in terms of fuel reserves, engine oil, fresh water and provisions is at least seven days, and the hull is designed for long-term operation 24 hours a day and all year round. The productivity of the dredging unit used is up to 7,000 cubic meters of water per hour.
