The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement addressed partner organizations with a request to prioritize financial assistance on February 14, Bulgarian National Radio reports.
This request is published in a message on the official website of the Bulgarian Red Cross (BRC) due to the extremely difficult situation and severe logistical difficulties in the international operation that Turkey and Syria are experiencing.
The Bulgarian Red Cross report states that just over 1,900,000 leva ($1.01 million) have been raised to date within the framework of the organization’s National Campaign, of which, according to the Bulgarian Red Cross Appeal, International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, 480,000 leva have already been transferred to Turkey and 320,000 leva to Syria. Bilateral financial assistance is also expected.
To date, BPC has provided 1,152 woolen blankets by ground and air from its disaster reserve and from the joint disaster reserve of the Turkish Red Crescent; 1008 bedding sets; 1000 pillows; 240 family tents (16.5 m2); 400 mattresses and 224 boxes of donations to the National Campaign.
Also prepared for export and in the process of being shipped are 650 sleeping sets, each including a travel bed, self-inflating mattress, pillow, blanket, sheet, pillowcase, towel, and towel; 312 kitchen games; 306 radiators; 400 mattresses; 2,700 wool blankets and more than 3,500 boxes with donations from Bulgarian citizens. The total value of material donations from the BPC is about 290,000 euros.
The Bulgarian Red Cross is ready to send the first two tons of humanitarian aid to the victims in Syria. The organization is in contact with the Syrian and Lebanese communities in Bulgaria to accept the donations collected from them and assist in their transportation.
Thanks to the responsiveness of the Bulgarian society, the Bulgarian Red Cross now has enough humanitarian aid to cover the initial need for material donations from various local and international channels.
Starting Wednesday, February 15, 2023, the organization will work to sort and distribute incoming humanitarian aid and supplies already requested.
Following receipt of a new request to send additional humanitarian aid to Turkey and Syria, DBK’s campaign to collect material donations will resume.
