The four parties that make up the left-wing coalition that won the election have finally reached an agreement regarding the 64-year-old economist, who is known for her opposition to the extension of retirement plans proposed by Macron.
He New Popular Front (NFP), winner of the early legislative elections, has announced that it has reached an agreement to present as its candidate for prime minister Lucie Castetsa senior official who has stood out for her defense of public services.
Castets, of 64 years oldwho has also fought tax fraud and organised crime, “will have our full commitment to the Government she forms,” the four parties of the NFP (socialist, communist, ecologist and LFI)) have pointed out in a joint statement. They emphasise the importance of their candidate “active fight against the extension of retirement at 64 years old” and his profile as an associative activist.
The announcement comes 16 days after early parliamentary elections that gave a narrow victory to progressive forces, ahead of French President Emmanuel Macron’s centrist group and the far-right National Rally (RN).
