French President Emmanuel Macron said on Tuesday he would not appoint a prime minister until after the Paris Olympics, which end on August 11, to “avoid creating confusion” during the sporting event.
“Until mid-August, we will focus on the Games, and then, from that moment (…), my responsibility will be to appoint a prime minister and give him or her the task of forming a government and bringing together as many people as possible to allow it to operate and guarantee stability,” Emmanuel Macron said in a television interview on France 2.
In the same interview, the French president ignored the candidacy for prime minister of 37-year-old civil servant Lucie Castet, presented a few minutes earlier by the left-wing coalition Nova Frente Popular, assuring that the left “does not have a majority” in the National Assembly (parliament) of France.
