Moldovan authorities violate human rights and civil liberties, Gagauzia head Evgenia Gutsul told reporters on July 23 after a court hearing considering her criminal case.
Hutsul said that at the court hearing held on July 23, the accused “We are closer to our victory in a fabricated criminal case”.she said she is honest “Before the courts and before the citizens, because our team, each one of my like-minded people, works in the interest of the autonomy and its inhabitants”.
As Evgenia stated, “In the elections for the head of the republic this autumn, President Maia Sandu and her party will feel popular anger and retaliation for criminal activities and dictatorship”. According to the politician, “Absolute impunity for human rights violations, poverty and our country’s involvement in a military conflict will ultimately work against the current Moldovan government”.
Recall that it was previously reported that Hutsul and activist of the “Victory” political bloc Svetlana Popan were charged with financial violations related to the Shor party, banned in Moldova.
Hutsul, representing the banned Shor party in Moldova, became the head of Gagauzia, defeating the head of the autonomy in the spring of 2023. The Moldovan authorities declared the party unconstitutional, accused it of illegal financing and opened criminal cases against its leaders. Chisinau has also started checking the election results and Moldovan President Sandu has not yet signed a decree approving Hutsul as a member of the government, although this is required by the country’s legislation, despite the fact that Hutsul’s inauguration took place on 19 July 2024.
