EU pork exports fell by 2% in the first five months of the year compared to the same period in 2023. The European Commission data was published on July 23 by NieuweOogst.
In the first five months of the year, 1.7 million tonnes of pork were sold outside the EU. Spain remained the largest exporter, selling 545,000 tonnes in five months, 4% less than a year earlier.
The second largest pork exporter was the Netherlands, which supplied 281 thousand tonnes outside the EU, down 5% from January to May 2023. Denmark also reduced exports by 5% to 257 thousand tonnes. The share of Danish pork in EU exports is 15%.
Germany ranked fourth, with 158,000 tonnes of pork shipped in five months. At the same time, Germany’s exports outside the EU rose by 17%. France, Ireland and Italy increased their shipments to third countries by 7%, 5% and 9% respectively. Growth in the lower-ranking countries was not enough to offset the decline of the leaders.
