South Korean President Yoon Seok-yeol has promised to visit the Czech Republic in September to discuss nuclear energy cooperation at the request of Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala, Yonhap news agency reported on July 23.
It is worth noting that the Czech Prime Minister requested a visit to Yun because Prague won the tender for the construction of a nuclear power plant in the Czech Republic.
Last week, a South Korean consortium led by Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power was named the preferred bidder for the Czech nuclear power plant project, which is estimated to cost around $17.3 billion (1.5 trillion rubles).
The agency stressed that the likely success of the deal would be South Korea’s first victory in the nuclear power market since 2009, when the country signed a contract with the United Arab Emirates to build the Barakah nuclear power plant.
Earlier in the day, the presidential office announced that Yoon would send special envoys to discuss follow-up to the project.
Son Tae-yoon, the president’s chief of staff for policy, and Industry Minister Ahn Duk-geun traveled to the European country on a three-day trip to meet with Fiala and Industry and Trade Minister Josef Sikela, the South Korean leader’s office said.
