Dozens of Hugo Diaz’s friends took to social media to mourn the death of the man who was bludgeoned to death in Almada early Monday morning. “Rest in peace Hugo. Justice will be done,” one friend lamented, and many others echoed. “How is it possible he didn’t hurt anyone,” another message was left.
The case is shrouded in mystery and there have been no arrests so far.
Hugo Dias, 47, was found unconscious in Feijó’s Francisco Taborda square at 1:50 a.m. on Monday. Residents say they heard a warning cry: “No more stealing here” and two figures left the area, but authorities were not informed of the robbery.
The death occurred a few meters from the sister’s house. The investigation is currently being conducted by the judicial police, who are trying to establish the contours of the murder and the motives of the crime.
