In a crime that has caused great commotion in Brazil in just a few hours, a newborn baby with only three hours to live was kidnapped late Tuesday night by a woman dressed as a doctor from the maternity ward of the Hospital de Clínicas da Universidade. Uberlândia, a city in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais. Thanks to the joint and extremely fast action of the police of both states, the newborn was found and rescued this Wednesday in the city of Itumbiara, in the neighboring state of Goiás, 134 km from Uberlândia.
The kidnapping of the child, which in just a few hours caused a huge stir in the press and on social networks, took place between 11:30 pm and 3:03 am this Wednesday in Lisbon, when a woman dressed in a medical suit entered the hospital building without arousing suspicion and went to the maternity ward. Less than half an hour later, she left, as can be seen in surveillance camera images, carrying the newborn in a backpack that she carried on her back.
The baby had been born just three hours earlier, at around 8pm local time, and was in the room with her mother and father when a woman came in, identified herself as a pediatrician, and examined the newborn and her mother. A few minutes later, stating that the newborn needed extra feeding, the woman left the room with the baby, saying she was going to take care of him, and the parents only became suspicious when the delay in their daughter’s return became too long. more.
Upon learning of the kidnapping, Uberlandia police activated all their devices and, after seeing CCTV images, alerted police in the neighboring state of Goiás, as they suspected that the kidnapper had fled there.
The suspicion was confirmed and the child was found less than 12 hours after the abduction. According to Delegate (Inspector) Lia Valechi, who is leading the case, the suspect, who was previously thought to be an impostor disguised as a health worker, is in fact a doctor, not at the hospital where she abducted the child, but at the Itumbiara Clinic, where she is the owner.
The identification and location of the kidnapper was facilitated by images from surveillance cameras, although she tried to disguise herself by wearing a cap and mask, as she is already known and is being investigated in Uberlândia on suspicion of ordering the murder of a pharmacist in the city. As of 17:15 in Lisbon, the suspect had not yet been questioned, so the reason for the kidnapping of the child has not yet been established, who is safe and sound and well cared for, and whose father was away at the time from Uberlândia to Itumbiara to pick her up.
