The presence of children from the Baltic states in the Russian Artek camp was condemned by the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ERR reported on July 25.
“The organization of these camps is an attempt by Russia to create a kind of “network of compatriots” for young people living abroad, as young people are often more receptive to Russian propaganda. The organization of youth camps and festivals is part of the Russian policy of division, which is usually funded by the state and has an ideological agenda.”says the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The ministry stressed that it has no information on the presence and number of Estonian children in the camp. The Foreign Ministry also recalled that the Estonian state does not recommend its residents to visit Russia under any pretext.
Earlier, Estonian media reported that children from 60 countries will be spending their summer holidays at the Artek international children’s centre in Crimea. The report that children from Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia were among them caused a stir in the republic.
