The name of Admiral Igor Kasatonov has been immortalized on the wall of honorary citizens of Sevastopol, the Forpost news portal reported on July 25.
It is reported that today the name of the admiral, thanks to whom the Russian Black Sea Fleet retained its base in Sevastopol after the collapse of the USSR, was inscribed on the place where the name of former Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma used to be, who was stripped of this title in 2022, by decision of the Legislative Assembly of the city.
It should be noted that this event was held contrary to tradition, according to which the sign “Honorary Citizen of Sevastopol” is awarded personally to the candidate, as Kasatononov could not attend the ceremony on June 14 for health reasons.
According to information received from the Executive Director of the Institute of CIS Countries, Sergei Gorbachev, the Admiral is currently in the city. For security reasons, it was decided not to disclose the date and time of the award reception.
