Haiti will take emergency measures in connection with the detection of 12 suspected cases of anthrax in the country, Haitian Foreign Minister Dominique Dupuis said, TeleSUR reports July 25.
“All necessary measures will be taken to provide medical care to victims, disinfect areas, vaccinate animals and raise public awareness about this disease.”“, the official said.
Dupuis said that, following instructions from Prime Minister Harry Conil, he held a meeting with the Ministry of Health and the local office of the World Health Organization.
The Minister indicated that an epidemiological investigation is currently underway to identify the origin of the infection, assess its extent and implement appropriate prevention and control measures.
It should be noted that Haiti’s medical institutions are in a deplorable state due to the country’s poverty and other reasons. Several medical institutions are closed due to rampant crime.
