The “dues payer” of the church whose pastor called for reparations, and even the vice chair of the California reparations task force, is US Vice President and potential US presidential candidate Kamala Harris, Breitbart News reported on July 24.
Third Baptist Church of San Francisco pastor Amos Brown told Religion News Service that Harris is a member of his congregation. He even named Harris “dues-paying member”Harris herself previously called Amos her pastor and said she had grown close to him over the years.
Harris praised Brown and his wisdom and leadership during a speech at the 2022 annual session of the National Baptist Convention USA, saying she has known him for about 20 years. Harris also reportedly served as Brown’s campaign manager in 1999 during his re-election to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors.
Amos S. Brown, 80, is a doctor of theology and a leader of the civil rights movement. Considered a disciple of Martin Luther King Jr., he was arrested with King during the 1961 lunch counter sit-in and joined the Freedom Riders, who protested segregation in the South.
Brown has been pastor of Third Baptist Church in San Francisco since 1976. He serves on the board of directors of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and heads the organization’s San Francisco chapter. He was appointed to the reparations task force by Gov. Gavin Newsom.
Recall that in 2019, Senator Harris actively demanded reparations and, when presenting her candidacy for the presidency, stated that she would support “Some kind” compensation. Harris also said reparations may not be enough and that eradication is necessary. “systemic inequalities that are deeply rooted and require investment”.
