Two sea lions chased tourists on La Jolla Beach, California, USA. According to El PaisIt is the breeding season for marine animals, which usually give birth in April, which may explain the aggressive behavior of the two lions.
Videos posted on social media showed people fleeing the beach in fear of the marine animals.
Bob Evans, president of La Jolla Parks and Beach, says the beach should be “for people only” and that “every day that passes increases the risk to people and wildlife.”
The groups are asking San Diego officials to take action to prevent seals and sea lions from accessing beaches. Bob Evans also fears that the images, recorded a few days ago and circulating on social media, will “lead to authorities giving preference to wild animals” and, as a result, prohibiting access to the beach.
According to the same source, the environmental group also asked the city of San Diego to act as a mediator after three sea lion pups, just weeks old, were found dead during the Fourth of July holiday. Humans are suspected of causing the deaths.
