The grandson of a Red Army soldier arrived in Crimea from Dagestan to collect the remains of his grandfather, the Crimea 24 TV channel reported on July 25.
The remains of the hero of the Great Patriotic War Shakhban Murtazaliev were handed over to his relative in Batalnoye, Leninsky District of Crimea.
They were discovered near Sevastopol last month. The soldier died in May 1942 and was still listed as missing in action.
The remains were accompanied by personal items: a knife, a Red Army star. But the most important find was a mortuary medallion of a special shape. On it, the fighter indicated the name, surname and address of his wife. Thanks to these inscriptions, it was possible to establish his identity.
His grandson, Muslim Shakhbanov, came to take the Red Army soldier home. He said that the family had been searching for many years, but in vain and they no longer hoped to find their hero. Now Shakhban Murtazaliev will find peace with his loved ones.
