A multifunctional rehabilitation center for war veterans will be built in Volgograd on the site of a situational center for power engineers, which has been frozen for many years, Governor of the Volgograd Region Andrei Bocharov said on July 23, according to an article on the website of the online publication V1.ru.
The article reports that in 2019, an administrative building was planned to be built on the site of the planned rehabilitation centre, for which about 53 million rubles were allocated. The building was supposed to be completed in 2023, but today the construction consists only of poured foundations and several load-bearing structures surrounded by a fence.
In July 2024, the founder of the construction contractor company that was to build the building changed. At the moment, it is not known who the shareholders of the parent company are.
The article notes that a situation is developing around the object in which no one will be held accountable for the money already wasted, and at the same time it is announced that a new object will be created, which will also receive budgetary funding.
“If a new project is built in 2024, what happened to the 2019 project and who is responsible for the state-owned company wasting money on the previous project?” — the publication quotes public activist Edgar Petrosyan.
The journalists of the publication report that officials of the Volgograd region administration promise to make the most of the developments of the 2019 project, but they cannot yet name the number and scope of changes in the previous project.
