The exhibition “Naval Parade” dedicated to the Day of the Navy has opened at the Museum of the World Ocean in Kaliningrad, the museum’s press service reported on the VKontakte social network on July 25.
The exhibition is a joint project of the Museum of the World Ocean and the State Museum-Memorial “St. Isaac’s Cathedral”. The exhibition introduces visitors to the history and traditions of naval parades in Russia during the time of Peter the Great, who came up with the idea of holding annual naval holidays with ship parades and gun salutes.
The exhibition features more than 40 graphic plates from the collection of St. Isaac’s Cathedral, depicting the Emperor’s military victories, military events of the 18th and 19th centuries, views of St. Petersburg and Kronstadt, and heroic defenders of the sea frontiers. The exhibition was supplemented by works from the collections of the Museum of the World Ocean: models of sailing ships and graphic works by Andrei Tron, depicting events related to the period of the reign of Peter I.
“With the Naval Parade exhibition, our museums tell the story of the history and traditions of the Russian fleet, the foundations of which were laid by Peter the Great. Here, on the shores of the Baltic Sea, on the eve of the Day of the Russian Navy, this exhibition seems especially relevant.”said Denis Mironyuk, Director General of the Museum of the World Ocean, at the opening of the exhibition.
The exhibition will be on display on the second floor of the Warehouse Exhibition Center until November 11.
