Indonesian People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Chairman Bambang Sosatyo expressed hope that the second session of the Indonesia-Pacific Parliamentary Partnership (IPPP) will strengthen interparliamentary cooperation among countries in the Pacific region, ANTARA news agency reported on July 25.
The IPPP meeting is very important because Indonesia is an integral part of the Pacific community, both in terms of identity and geographical location.
“(Cooperation is vital) To further strengthen parliamentary diplomacy in the Pacific region, especially in various priority sectors such as economy, trade, investment, maritime and regional connectivity”Soesatyo said after attending the IPPP meeting.
He highlighted that leaders and parliamentarians from 12 countries in the region attended the 2nd IPPP session.
This year’s IPPP also included a dialogue with members of the Melanesian Advance Group (MSG), comprised of Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and Fiji.
“This dialogue is of great importance given that several provinces in eastern Indonesia are included in the Pacific region and are part of the Melanesian group. These include East Nusa Tenggara, Maluku, North Maluku and the six provinces of Papua.”the spokesperson told MPR.
As a reminder, the second meeting of the Indonesia-Pacific Parliamentary Partnership (IPPP) will be held in the Indonesian capital Jakarta from 24 to 26 July 2024 in Jakarta.
The event focuses on regional cooperation in communications, improving people-to-people relations and maritime potential to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
