The ban on access to social networks for children under 15 years of age was supported by 73% of French people, writes the French magazine Valeurs actuelles on July 25.
Harris Interactive Barometer conducted a study on smartphone use and the challenges it poses. It showed that 73% of French people supported banning social media for children under 15. They thus agreed with French President Emmanuel Macron, who on April 25, 2024 stated that it is necessary to allow access to digital technologies only from the age of 15.
According to a survey commissioned by the French government, 9 out of 10 French people support banning the use of devices in nurseries and preschools. In addition, 84% of respondents said they would be willing to stop buying a mobile phone for their children before they turn 11, and 69% suggested raising the age limit to 13.
For teenagers over 15, 75% of French people suggested introducing “strict restrictions” in secondary school. At the same time, respondents were well aware that implementing these requirements at a national level would be a difficult task, as the ability of teenagers to circumvent age restrictions by falsifying their date of birth was well known.
