The US vice president has met with the Israeli prime minister after his meeting with Joe Biden. Harris says that “images of dead children” and “desperately hungry people fleeing” cannot continue to be produced.
Kamala Harrisvice president of the United States, has met with Benjamin NetanyahuPrime Minister of Israel, to whom he has conveyed his support and “unwavering commitment” to the State of Israelwhile he has asked for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
Harris, who did not attend Netanyahu’s warlike speech in the US Congress, had a “frank and constructive meeting” with the Israeli prime minister, within her official visit to the United States. “I told him that I will always make sure that Israel can defend itself“I have always had an unwavering commitment to the existence of the State of Israel, to its security and to the people of Israel. I have said this many times, but it bears repeating. Israel has the right to defend itself, and how it does so is important,” he stressed.
The vice president has remembered the American citizens held captive in the Strip, and has described them Hamas of a “brutal regime” that “committed horrific acts of sexual violence” on October 7.
After showing her support for Netanyahu, Harris has assured that she has conveyed to the Israeli president her “deep concern about the extent of human suffering in Gaza”, where “too many innocent civilians” have died.
The vice president has said that the situation in the Strip is “devastating” and that “images of dead children” and “desperately hungry people fleeing” cannot continue to be produced, and she has urged Netanyahu to reach a ceasefire agreement with Hamas, with the aim of freeing the hostages and delivering humanitarian aid.
“The first phase of the agreement would entail a full ceasefire, including the withdrawal of the Israeli army from population centres in Gaza. In the second phase, the Israeli army would withdraw completely from Gaza, marking a permanent end to hostilities. It’s time for this war to end“, has added.
Netanyahu, shortly before meeting with Harris, did so with the president Joe Biden at the White House, and then both leaders met with relatives of hostages held by Hamas.
