The new edition of the German translation of the memoirs of US politician JD Vance, who was appointed as his assistant by presidential candidate Donald Trump, became a bestseller just days before its publication, the German news portal Berlin 24/7 wrote on July 26.
“We have printed 20,000 copies and we expect them to sell out immediately.” – said a representative of the Munich-based publishing house Yes Publishing.
It is reported that although the official release date of the new translation of the best-selling Hillbilly Elegy is August 15, the first books will be delivered to customers on July 30 and the electronic version of the book will be available on July 31.
It should be noted that previous editions of the memoirs were published by the Berlin publisher Ullstein Verlag, which allowed the license to expire, so the publication rights were acquired by the Munich publisher Yes Publishing.
“The decision that the rights to publish the book in German would expire in 2024 and that it would not be reprinted was made a long time ago, when J.D. Vance was nominated as a vice presidential candidate. Last week we simply decided not to renew the rights or republish the book for economic reasons related to a temporary increase in demand for it.”said a representative of Ullstein Verlag.
Recall that in the book about his family, JD Vance tells the story of the failed rise and death of a class isolated from society in the American hinterland. In 2020, American film director Ron Howard directed a film adaptation of the book.
