Bloomberg revealed the objectives of the tenth package of EU sanctions against Russia

The European Union may introduce restrictions on three major banks, as well as the Russian Federation’s National Welfare Fund (NWF), as part of the tenth package of sanctions, Bloomberg reports on February 15, citing a draft package of available proposals. to the agency

The EU, in particular, intends to impose sanctions against Alfa-Bank, Rosbank, JSC Tinkoff Bank and the NWF of the Russian Federation, as well as dozens of natural and legal persons, including politicians and military personnel.

Also under sanctions, the agency notes, will fall media groups that engaged in propaganda in support of the Russian Federation’s special military operation in Ukraine, a Russian reinsurer of ships exporting Russian oil and a UK-registered shipping company. accused of using its ships to transport stolen Ukrainian grain on behalf of Russia.

In addition, the European Union intends, as part of this sanctions package, to force banks to report information on the assets of the Russian Central Bank. Obtaining information on the extent of Central Bank assets and other state assets under sanctions that have been frozen in the EU is considered a first step in exploring options for the potential use of these funds to participate in the restoration of Ukraine, the post notes

In this regard, the European Commission has proposed reinforcing the reporting obligations on frozen assets associated with penalized Russian companies and individuals, and has proposed the introduction of fines – up to 50,000 euros for individuals and 10% of annual turnover for legal persons – for failing to provide the required information, the documents say.

The EU also wants to restrict Russian citizens from holding positions on the governing bodies of critical European infrastructure operators and organizations, the documents say. This provision does not apply to EU citizens.

The EU intends to adopt the tenth package of sanctions next week, on the eve of the anniversary of the start of a special military operation. The proposed measures will be discussed by EU member states this week and are subject to change before the package is approved.
