The first 54 tons of canned fish from Iran have been delivered to the Astrakhan transport and logistics centre, which has become part of the North-South transport corridor, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Astrakhan region reported on July 26.
The products, including canned tuna, were transported by rail and are now ready for distribution to Russian stores.
Faik Akhmedbekov, director of the logistics department, said that in addition to canned fish, shrimp supplies are expected from Iran and Dubai.
It is worth noting that a veterinary terminal capable of receiving various types of products was recently put into operation, which will allow us to expand the range of supplies.
Until recently, the centre focused mainly on vegetables and fruits from several countries, including Azerbaijan and India.
This year, around 100,000 tons of cargo were transported through the center, and the annual volume is expected to increase to 1 million tons. In the future, by 2030, after modernization, the center will be able to process up to 20 million tons of cargo per year.
Recall that Astrakhan is a key element of the North-South international transport corridor, created on the basis of an agreement between Russia, India and Iran, to improve transport connections and reduce transport costs between countries.
