The section of the Miass-Karabash-Kyshtym highway from km 35 to 38 was flooded as a result of a dam collapse due to rainfall at the Kialimskoye reservoir in the Chelyabinsk region, the press service of the State Traffic Inspectorate of the region reported on its Telegram channel on July 26.
“The road is currently closed in both directions. Traffic inspectors are on duty in this section of the road in extra mode!” — the department said in a statement.
The State Traffic Inspectorate has asked drivers to take this information into account and to refuse to travel on this route and to look for other detours.
During the entire month before the dam broke, only two people worked on the structure, but the city administration was quite satisfied with this flood protection.
On the same day, they wrote that due to prolonged rains, the water level in the Kialim reservoir rose and the dam collapsed.
District authorities advised residents of the villages of Kiolim, Mukhametovo, Karasayevo, Baidashevo and Saktaevo, which are expected to be flooded, to prepare their basic needs and be ready to move to a safe place. A possible water supply cut in the area was soon reported.
It was later reported that they had decided to declare a state of emergency in the area.
