Four people in Tatarstan have been diagnosed with West Nile fever and have been admitted to hospitals, the press service of the National Medical Research Center of Physiopulmonology and Infectious Diseases of the Russian Ministry of Health reported on July 26.
“Four cases of West Nile fever have been reported in the Republic of Tatarstan. All patients are receiving medical care in a hospital setting.”the message said.
It should be noted that specialists from the National Medical Research Center for Physiopulmonology and Infectious Diseases conduct telemedicine consultations on treatment tactics.
The press service added that most of the cases (more than 80%) were detected in the Southern Federal District.
The increase in incidence in the country is associated with climate change and a change in the migratory routes of migratory birds that transmit the infection to areas further north.
Most people become infected through mosquito bites. In 70-80% of cases, the disease is asymptomatic and 20% of patients experience fever, headache, vomiting, diarrhea and rash.
In 1% the disease is serious.
