An 18-year-old boy stabbed his grandfather, a 77-year-old man, in the eye during a psychotic episode in the apartment where they both lived in Praia de Aparecida, in Santos, on the southern coast of Brazil’s São Paulo state. The elderly man was hospitalized in serious condition at Santa Casa de Santos Hospital, but was conscious and able to talk to rescuers and police officers called by neighbors.
In addition to the fact that his grandson had destroyed and gouged out one of his eyes, the elderly man’s face was completely disfigured by knife cuts. In the midst of a veritable sea of blood inside the apartment, the agents who first arrived on the scene found pieces of flesh from the body of a seventy-year-old grandson, torn apart by rage, completely insane from some kind of mental disorder or drug use.
When agents arrived at the scene, the assailant, whose clothes were covered in the blood of the grandfather he had attacked, also attempted to use a knife on the officers, but was subdued with great difficulty using tasers. The young man was taken into custody to another hospital department for psychiatric evaluation, and after his release, he will be sent to a regional pretrial detention center for attempted murder.
