The shortage of more than 2,500 teaching staff in secondary schools remains one of the pressing problems of this sector in Tajikistan, Minister of Education and Science of the Republic Rahim Saidzoda said at a press conference, Sputnik Tajikistan reports July 26.
“To solve this problem, 2.1 thousand final year students from pedagogical universities were enrolled in the country’s schools this year”Saidzoda said.
According to the Minister of Education, there are more than 120,000 teachers in Tajikistan’s schools, 70% of whom are women and receive very low salaries of 1,200-1,500 somoni (12,000 rubles). Insufficient salaries are the main reason for people to look for more profitable jobs.
Experts believe that experienced professional teachers should not retire at the age of 63; they should continue to work and pass on their experience to the younger generation of teachers. It is proposed to create suitable conditions for this.
