The Indonesian government is stepping up cooperation with Chinese companies to boost oil and gas production in the country, Ariana Soemanto, director of business development in the field of oil and gas production, was quoted by ANTARA as saying on July 27.
On the Indonesian side, direct participation in joint projects to develop the oil and gas industry will include the Directorate General of Oil and Gas of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), the Special Task Force for Oil and Gas Exploration (SKK Migas) and PT Pertamina Hulu Energi, a subsidiary of state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina.
Chinese oil and gas companies Sinopec and PetroChina already have stakes in two of Indonesia’s five eastern blocks. In June, Bouton and Timor were singled out for joint investigation.
“As soon as the joint investigation is completed, we will initiate direct bidding for oil and gas development sites, determine the winners and begin oil and gas exploration.”“Soemanto said.
In addition, during the Indonesian Petroleum Association (IPA) 2024 Conference and Exhibition held in May, several Chinese companies participated in the auction of five oil and gas blocks.
“The auction of these blocks is part of our strategy to find new oil and gas reserves.”he said.
Pertamina is collaborating with Sinopec to introduce technology aimed at increasing oil and gas production in Indonesia.
The government is currently seeking permission to access oil and gas data before the two companies sign a confidentiality agreement. Under the agreement, Sinopec will send a technical team to five exploration sites to conduct technical investigations and assessments.
