The fire broke out this Saturday afternoon in the pavilion of the Interecycling company, which processes waste electrical and electronic equipment in the municipality of Tondela, a source in the Viseu-Dau-Lafoes subregional command told Lusa.
The fire alarm was raised at around 4:50 p.m. and within about an hour there were 71 operators and 26 vehicles on scene.
According to the same source, it was a major fire “inside one of the pavilions.”
“We are still mobilizing additional resources,” he added.
This is the third fire to occur at the Intercycling plant in less than 10 years: one was recorded in March 2017 and another in September 2015.
Interecycling, located in the Lajedo Industrial Park, was founded in 1999 and was the first WEEE recycling company in the Iberian Peninsula.
