A rocket has fallen on a football pitch where a match was being played, and most of the victims are children and young people who were playing or watching the game. Israel accuses Hezbollah of the attack, and the Shiite militia categorically denies its involvement.
At least ten Israelis have been killed and dozens more injured in an attack from Lebanon on Saturday afternoon.
A rocket has landed on a football pitch in the Druze town of Majdal Shams in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, where a match was being played, and among the dead and wounded are children and young people between the ages of 10 and 20, the Israeli Red Star of David (Magen David Adom) reported and the Jerusalem Post reported.
The rocket crash also left around thirty people injured, six of them in serious condition, 10 with minor injuries and several victims with symptoms of anxiety, according to the MDA report.
On the other hand, it has been reported that around thirty missiles were detected launched from Lebanese territory. “Air defence fighters successfully intercepted several missiles. The rest of the missiles fell in an open area, without any casualties,” it said on its official channel.
Israel accuses Hezbollah, which denies responsibility
While, The Israeli Armed Forces have pointed out to the Lebanese Islamist militia-party Hezbollah as responsible for the attack. “According to assessments of the situation in the Israel Defense Forces and the intelligence information available to us, the attack on Majdal Shams is the work of the terrorist organization Hezbollah,” a military statement said.
“Hezbollah is behind the rocket launch that hit the Majdal Shams football field and caused many casualties, only civilians, including children, this afternoon,” he added.
Israeli army spokesman Dainel Hagari said that “they are already preparing a response.”
Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz blamed Hezbollah for the attack in a television interview: “There is no doubt that Hezbollah crossed all the red lines,” he warned, adding that “we are facing an all-out war.”
Hezbollah, However, despite the fact that it had claimed responsibility for up to seven attacks in other parts of northern Israel on Saturday, it has “categorically denied the accusations “from several enemy media outlets about an attack in Majda Shams,” the daily L’Oriente le Jour reported. “The Islamic Resistance has nothing to do with the incident,” he stressed.
The Lebanese government has condemned any attacks against civilians and called for a cessation of hostilities on all fronts. The Lebanese government has stressed that “attacks against civilians constitute a flagrant violation of international law and contradict the principles of humanity.”
For his part, the spokesperson for the UN mission in Lebanon (UNIFIL), Andrea Tenenti, confirmed that they are “in contact with the parties to try to reduce tensions.”
The border between Israel and Lebanon is at its highest point of tension since 2006, with an intense exchange of fire since October, which has already caused the deaths of 500 people on the Lebanese side, most of them from Hezbollah.
The Golan Heights is a territory that Israel captured from Syria during the Six-Day War (1967) and the Yom Kippur War (1973) and which it effectively annexed in 1981, in a move not recognized by the international community.
