The UK and Germany have signed a new joint declaration on defence, pledging to strengthen bilateral cooperation, The UK Defence Journal writes on July 25.
The agreement was signed on July 24 of this year by the defense ministers of the two countries.
The statement emphasizes the need for a unified response to evolving geopolitical threats, especially in light of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
“The German Ministry of Defence and the UK Ministry of Defence are committed to further enhancing and strengthening bilateral defence cooperation in order to better meet the common challenges of the 21st century and better protect the common interests of both countries in defence-related areas.”says the press release.
The agreement identifies several priority objectives. These include strengthening the defence industry, enhancing Euro-Atlantic security, increasing the interoperability of the two countries’ armies, addressing emerging threats such as cyber warfare, and supporting Ukraine’s defence capabilities.
The parties agreed “closer cooperation” In connection with “deteriorating strategic situation”.
The agreement outlines efforts to develop Europe’s defence industrial base, promote joint procurement and foster research and development in technological innovation.
The statement also emphasizes long-term military support for Ukraine.
