Six forest fires with a total area of 23,568.3 hectares were extinguished over the past 24 hours by forest fire formations in the Ust-Maisky and Mirninsky uluses, said Chief Forester of Yakutia Andrei Konoplev during a briefing on July 28, the press service of the Head of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) and the Government of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) reported.
Three taiga fires were detected in the Nyurbinsky and Olekminsky uluses.
According to the forest chief, 1,882 firefighters and 197 special teams are involved in extinguishing the fires. The necessary forces and resources are still being gathered. In accordance with the firefighting plans, 559 personnel have been mobilized.
Survey aircraft are on alert. The Be-200 amphibious aircraft are planned to be sent to the Verkhnevilyuysky and Kobyaysky uluses.
Recall that 2021 has become the most catastrophic year in terms of fires for Russian forests since 2001. In Yakutia alone, the total area of forest fires amounted to about 8.5 million hectares or 85 thousand square kilometers. This is the largest loss due to forest fires in Russia in recent decades. According to estimates by Green Peace, fires destroyed record amounts of forests in Yakutia. In addition, forest fires significantly increase the degradation of permafrost.
