Family doctor Norbert Kreussenbrunner, head of a nine-person practice that taught students at the Medical University of Graz, has lost his teaching opportunity due to a gender dispute, writes the Austrian daily Heute on July 26.
The reason was an email from the university, inviting the doctor to take part in the survey. The doctor refused to take part in the survey, stating that he was bothered by the gender terminology, and asked for “legible” texts, as required by the German Orthographic Council.
Following this statement, Kreussenbrunner was stripped of his teaching credentials, which the University of Medicine informed him of by email. The university administration explained that the values of the doctor-teacher are at odds with those of the university.
The doctor, who lost his teaching position, explained that he is not a gender opponent. “My students have never felt discriminated against and I see the problems that women face in the professional world; after all, I have a family with three daughters.”Kreussenbrunner points out.
Finally, the Minister for Public Health, Karlheinz Kornhäusl, intervened in the dispute. He requested a meeting with the rector of the University of Graz and the doctor.
Kornhäusl said the conflict had been resolved and a solution had been found quickly. The doctor will continue his teaching career. “We need all dedicated doctors, especially in the field of training young doctors”“, the politician explained.
